Dress Code

Students are required to show proper attention to cleanliness, health, neatness, safety, and appropriateness of clothing and appearance for school activities.  A well-groomed appearance is important in developing a positive self-image and compliments the school’s instructional program.  Violations of the dress and grooming regulations may result in removal of the student from the school setting to change into appropriate clothing.  Parents shall be notified of dress and grooming violations.

  • Shoes must be worn at all times.  Sandals may be worn only if they have a front and back strap.  Tennis shoes are safer for our active students and enable greater participation in P.E. and other outside activities.
  • Hair must be neatly groomed and must not create a disruption on campus or in the classroom.
  • Clothing, jewelry and accessories, such as backpacks or notebooks, shall be free of writing, pictures or any other insignia that are crude, vulgar, or profane.
  • Hats shall be removed in the classroom or inside buildings.
  • Shoulder straps on shirts should be a minimum of two inches wide.  No spaghetti straps, tube or halter tops, strapless tops, back-less tops, back-less with tie tops, off-the-shoulder or low cut tops, or tops of see-through fabric are allowed.
  • Skirts or shorts must cover to the mid-thigh.  All tops must cover the top of the pant or skirt, with midriff covered at all times during normal activities.

The California Legislature has declared that gang-related apparel is hazardous to the health and safety of the school environment.  The Board recognizes that when there is evidence of gang presence in District schools that this may disrupt or interfere with school activities.  The Board has determined that the Superintendent or designee may establish reasonable dress code regulations prohibiting students from wearing gang-related apparel when necessary for the health and safety of the school environment.
