TVUSD GATE Identification Timeline

January—May

Screening for all second grade students is conducted at each elementary school site. Students are given the Raven Progressive Matrices. An opt out letter will be sent to all parents of second grade

students. Parents must return the form if they choose not to have this screening done for their child. Students who rank in the 90th percentile or above will continue with evaluation for the program. A folder containing the Gifted and Talented Evaluation Scales, Parent Inventory and Social Environment Factors form is prepared for each of these students. Call your child’s school for specific dates.

 

February– March

Nominations by both classroom teachers and parents are accepted for third through eleventh grade students. Signed permission to test is required for all students being evaluated for the program

 

March—May

Raven Progressive Matrices is administered at each school site for all third through eleventh grade students with signed permission. Students who rank in the 90th percentile or above will continue

with evaluation for the program. A folder containing the Gifted and Talented Evaluation Scales, Parent Inventory and Social Environment Factors form is prepared for each of these students. Call your child’s school for specific dates.

 

April—May

STAR testing for all District schools will be administered during this window.

 

May—June

Parents and teachers complete evaluation forms and folders for each student in the evaluation are returned to the District Office.

 

May—August

Scoring of student folders begins. Data from third trimester District assessments is pulled for all third through fifth grade students. STAR scores from the state are received and added to the final scoring on each student’s GATE evaluation profile matrix.

August—September

Parents are notified by mail of the results of the evaluation. Letters will go in the mail after STAR Parent Reports have been sent. Placement letters include a return envelope and a Placement Agreement. Written parent permission is required for all students who meet the criteria to participate in the GATE program. The Placement Agreement must be on file in the GATE District Office.
